AS9100 - A Standardized Definition of Aerospace Quality
DIT-MCO International Corporation is certified to the Aerospace Quality Standard AS9100 in addition to its current ISO 9001 certification.
What is AS9100?
AS9100:2001 (commonly referred to as AS9100B) is based upon ISO 9001:2000 (commonly referred to as ISO 9K:2K). It is a process oriented standard with the primary goal of continually improving the effectiveness of the quality management system. AS9100B is based upon the Eight Management Principles:
- Customer Focus
- Leadership
- Involvement of People
- Process Approach
- System Approach to Management
- Continual Improvement
- Factual Approach to Decision Making
- Mutually Beneficial Supplier Relationships
This certification brings DIT-MCO to an even higher quality level beyond ISO 9001.
What is the history behind AS9100?
The AS9000 Aerospace Basic Quality System was developed in response to the withdrawal of the Military Quality Standards MIL-Q-9858 and MIL-I-45208 by the U.S. Government when ISO 9000 was adopted. This left the aerospace industry without quality management standards capable of meeting their industry requirements. A collaborative effort in developing the AS9000 Standard was headed by representatives of prime contractors and major suppliers such as Boeing, GE Aircraft Engines, AlliedSignal, Allison Engine Co., Lockheed Martin Electronics and Aeronautics System, Pratt & Whitney, Rockwell-Collins, Sikorsky, Northrop Grumman Commercial and Military, and others. The standard was developed using all of the ISO 9000 requirements and governmental requirements, including those of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), Department of Defense (DOD), and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). AS9100 replaced AS9000 as the quality standard for the aerospace industry.
How does this benefit me?
There are no mandated requirements for aerospace suppliers to become registered by a third-party registrar to AS9100. However, DIT-MCO has always endeavored to maintain quality standards that not only meet but exceed those of its customers. As an AS9100 certified company, DIT-MCO:
- Speeds the evaluation process because DIT-MCO is an approved source.
- Meets and addresses specific contractual aerospace requirements.
- Provides products that meet or exceed expected standards within the aerospace industry.

This process approach is used when developing, implementing, and improving the effectiveness of the quality management system for the overall purpose of enhancing customer satisfaction.

DIT-MCO determines customer needs and expectations and monitors customer satisfaction.

DIT-MCO’s top management places great emphasis on the development and improvement of the Quality Management System and company products by establishing attainable and measurable objectives at appropriate levels of the company.
- Continual Improvement
DIT-MCO takes a proactive approach to continuous improvement by using an “applicable methodologies” approach. Informational data is gathered and used to determine the performance of the quality management system and to identify further improvements.
